Ron founded BiP Solutions in 1984 to publish the UK’s first directory of public sector contract opportunities, Contrax Weekly. Prior to this he had a successful career in the motor and cleaning trades. He has been the CEO of the company since its creation and has been instrumental in defining BiP’s market-leading solutions. He has overseen the company's expansion into providing allied services and solutions that facilitate the interaction between buyer and supplier communities. Ron is also an accomplished writer on procurement issues and a speaker and presenter at conferences nationally and internationally. He now focuses on the strategic direction of the company and its expansion into new markets.

Simon joined BiP Solutions in 1998 and has overall responsibility for the sales, marketing and events teams. He has successfully managed the organisation of numerous high-profile events including conferences and exhibitions for the Ministry of Defence, the Scottish Government and the Society of Procurement Officers in Local Government (SOPO). In 2008, he oversaw the launch of Procurex Scotland, an annual conference and exhibition aimed at both the public and private sectors. Simon was responsible for the inception and successful delivery of the first Procurex National conference and exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham in March 2010. Simon regularly attends the Harvard Business School in Boston, USA, which specifically addresses leadership development and the global business challenge. In 2008 he successfully completed the Building and Leading Customer-Centric Organisations course and in 2009 the Leading Professional Service Firms course.

Scott was appointed Commercial Director in 2004, having previously worked for BiP Solutions as IT Director since 1999. Scott is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities for BiP in the UK and overseas via the Commercial team. He has experience in a number of international procurement projects, including assignments in Kenya, Kosovo, Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, he is responsible for expanding BiP's PASS Consultancy service and is the Director charged with ownership of the company's Delta eSourcing service.

Linda joined BiP in August 2011. As Finance Director, she plays an integral role in providing financial and strategic insight to both the leadership team and key external stakeholders. Reporting to CEO Ron Burges, Linda is responsible for providing essential input in the operational and commercial objectives of BiP and is central to developing strategies for growth and innovation – including future acquisitions. Linda has a proven track record of managing successful Finance functions within both the UK and overseas, including Europe and the United States. Linda joined BiP from Eurofriction Ltd where she acted as Finance and Customer Services Director. She is a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy and studied at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. She has considerable experience of operating at senior board level within high-growth organisations across a variety of industry sectors.

Gillian is BiP Solutions’ Customer Services Director and has worked for the company since 1986. She was responsible for establishing the customer support team in 2005, with the aim of improving levels of customer satisfaction and retention. She is also responsible for promoting communication between the public and private sectors on a range of procurement issues.

As Publishing Director, Grahame is responsible for BiP Solutions' business intelligence, multimedia design, proofing, communications and distribution teams. He is accountable for the quality and speed of delivery of the firm's online and print information services, including business intelligence services such as Tracker, the Government Opportunities website and publications such as MOD Defence Contracts Bulletin (MOD DCB). Before joining BiP in January 2003, Grahame worked in various senior editorial and publishing roles for the media company EMAP plc. Grahame regularly attends the Harvard Business School in Boston, USA, which specifically addresses leadership development and the global business challenge. Harvard Business School sets a high standard and in 2008 Grahame successfully completed the Delivering Information Services course and, in 2009, the Leading Professional Service Firms course.

 

David MacDonaldDr David McDonald (aged 45), Operations Director

David joined BiP Solutions as Operations Director in March 2009. He brings 17 years of diverse experience in bridging business, process and IT solutions. Most recently, David was Development Director for SunGard where he was responsible for product development, software solution implementations, training services and driving strategic change within the business. His background combines considerable project management experience with business process design and the design, development and maintenance of information management systems. He will draw on this experience to help the business meet its future growth plans.
 

Non-Executive Directors

Jim McPhillimy Jim McPhillimy, Non-Executive Director
Jim is Group Services Director for Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), a FTSE 100 listed company with nearly 17,000 employees based in Perth, Scotland. He joined SSE in 1995 and is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer. Previously, he was HR Director and formerly Head of Operations in Scotland for the same organisation. Jim is also Chairman of one of Scottish Enterprise’s five Regional Advisory Boards (Tayside) and is also Chairman of Southern Electric Trustees Ltd. His experience in HR and governance will be particularly useful as BiP continues to expand.

 

Norman Rose Alan Stewart, Non-Executive Director
Alan is a senior executive at Cenkos Securities plc’s newly formed Scottish office. His career started with KPMG in 1977 where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in audit and corporate finance. He moved into investment banking in 1988 and joined Cenkos in April 2009. Alan’s areas of specialism include Energy and Technology and he is also a Non-Executive Director of Thistle Pub Co II plc and Thistle Pub Co III plc. He has advised many companies, from both the UK and abroad, on flotation and other aspects of the various UK stock markets. His particular focus at BiP Solutions will be to assist in guiding the company through the financial aspects of its continued development.

Duncan Eaton

Duncan Eaton

Duncan was a Non-Executive Director of BiP Solutions from 2006 to 2009. Duncan has over 40 years’ experience in public sector and civil service management and procurement, operating at chief executive level for 16 of those years. He established and was CEO of the NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency between 2000 and 2006. He is a past President of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and the Health Care Supply Association and is a recipient of lifetime achievement awards from both Government Opportunities (GO) and the Health Care Supply Association. He also received the Swinbank Medal from CIPS. Duncan is a Non-Executive Director of several health care-related companies and has been a member of two OGC Procurement Capability Review teams. He is also the Special Advisor to an All Party Parliamentary Health Group.
